Personal statement for Nursing (new UCAS 2026 format)
Under the new UCAS format, a strong Nursing personal statement is three separate, specific answers — not one essay. Nursing admissions want unmistakable evidence you know what the profession involves and can hold up under it. The bar is honesty about care work, not lofty language about vocation.
Answer 1 — Why Nursing?
Anchor in a specific area of nursing — adult, mental health, child, learning disability — and show you understand what nurses in that field actually do, ideally from real exposure.
Answer 2 — Your academic preparation
Biology and any social sciences you take. Highlight communication, evidence and applied science — the things a nurse leans on in a shift.
Answer 3 — Beyond education
Care experience (paid or voluntary), NHS-recognised placements, reflection on what surprised or challenged you. Emotional resilience is shown, not claimed.

Common questions
Do I need paid healthcare experience?
No. Voluntary experience with vulnerable people is weighted the same when the reflection is honest and specific.
